Charity Auction - 4th August

Morning So following on from the Summer Party on the Saturday evening, we have our Charity Auction on Sunday 4th August, starting at 12 noon. The Commodore has chosen the Mary Hare Primary School Appeal as the chosen charity for this year. Mary Hare is a Registered Charity and is the largest national school for deaf children in the UK. Mary Hare provides an outstanding education for some 240 deaf children and young people each year. The school teaches children aged 5-18 years, from all over the country and Northern Ireland, so the majority of the children are residential. Lucy is Head of Year 10 and a Science Teacher in the Senior School. With 1 in 1000 babies born in the UK each year with a severe to profound hearing loss, and others losing their hearing through illness, she knows just how important it is to give deaf children the education they deserve. The Primary School is currently in a grade 2 listed building but it is difficult to maintain and expensive to modernise. Mary Hare are passionate about the children in their care and they know they could do so much more for them if they had a purpose built Primary School situated on the same site as the Senior School at Snelsmore Common, Newbury. The appeal for the new Primary School was launched in 2017 but they still have some way to go and that’s where you come in! As you will recall from a previous email we are starting to get some great items for the auction, including a week’s stay at a beautiful villa in La Manga. However we do still need lots more items for the auction, so if you have anything which you are able to donate (either an item or a promise of some sort), please let us know as soon as possible. (I won’t say that strange items are welcome just to give our wonderful auctioneer, John Donovan, a challenge, but……!!) We also need as many people as possible to come along on the day and support the auction. If you have not been to one of our auctions before, do come along as it is a very entertaining couple of hours, even for those sporting hangovers from the night before! You never know, the pigeons may return this year……. Kate Honorary Secretary The Windsor Yacht Club
