TWYC Charity Auction - 11th September 2016

Morning all

Just a quick reminder about our Charity Auction which takes place on Sunday 11th September 2016 starting at 12 noon.

This year we are supporting The Dyspraxia Foundation which supports people (especially children) with motor co-ordination difficulties. Dyspraxia can also affect speech and learning. Dyspraxia can have a major impact on an individual's ability to deal with everyday life - as well as the physical issues of difficulty in co-ordinating muscle movements, there can also be social and emotional difficulties. Living with this condition (the cause of which is largely unknown) can be greatly helped with early identification and support. The Foundation exists to help provide some of that support. It is a small charity doing excellent work helping parents, teachers and other professionals identify early signs of Dyspraxia, providing support to those affected by it and to promoting greater awareness and understanding. They really help change lives.

We already have some great items to auction – a list of a few of them is set out below. If you are able to donate anything to the auction then please contact Terry – terryknibbs@btinternet.com or 07989152459 as soon as possible.

Please do come along on the day to support this great cause and help us raise as much as we can for this very important charity. If you have not attended one of our auctions before it is certainly one of the highlights of the year with John Donovan acting as auctioneer, so do please come along and support the club.

TWYC Charity Auction – Sunday 11 September 2016

Items to be auctioned include:

1. A 1 hour flying experience : Your opportunity to fly in a light aircraft flying out of Elstree Aerodrome with a highly experienced pilot and instructor. You can choose between two options:

  • flying over areas that you may know – following the Thames for example (subject to airspace restrictions) - during which you will receive tuition and have the chance to fly the aircraft for the majority of the flight; or

  • the second option is to choose a 60-minute flight during which you will have ample opportunity to fly the aircraft and in addition experience some flight manoeuvres bordering on the aerobatic but which will not include flying upside down at any point. Manoeuvres may include wingovers, spins, steep turns and other quite unusual attitudes.

You can change your mind about what you want to do at any point in the flight. The flight will start and finish at Elstree aerodrome. There is a café there and a terrace to watch aircraft coming and going.

The flight is available on any day and there is no time limit by which the date needs to be set but the aeroplane is used daily, so best to book well in advance.

2. Farmhouse One Night Stay : Enjoy Dinner, Bed & Breakfast at a beautiful farmhouse in Leicestershire with Ann and David Thompson (Oyster Catcher). Date to be arranged at mutual convenience.

3. Clay pigeon shooting : Learn how to shoot a gun at clays – 3 people can enjoy a day’s instruction, clays, cartridges, gun hire and all safety equipment at EJ Churchill’s Shooting Ground in High Wycombe. Part of it is plugged in to your wireless router and your thermostat is changed. It’s a British Gas product.
